Samuel Glenn Barton (23 Dec 1892 – 26 Dec 1935) was one of five sons of John Thomas Barton and Effie Mae Buhrman. He was born in Fountaindale, Adams County, PA and moved to Pittsburgh, PA as a young adult (as did his twin brother and one older brother). He became interested in genealogy and began to research the Barton and Buhrman ancestry. He died at age 43, apparently without completing the project, but much of his work has been retained by descendants of his close family members. As of the date of this note (March 2012, updated February 2021 and May 2023), Glenn's original notes are in the possession of his nephew, R. Glenn Barton, also of Pittsburgh. Other relatives have copies of parts of them.

The notes consist of both typed and handwritten worksheets for a number of ancestors. The worksheets list names, dates of birth, dates of death, and names of parents, spouses, and children, along with their dates of birth and death. There is a fan-style pedigree chart showing four to six generations of Glenn's ancestors, and there is biographical information for some of them. There is also some correspondence between Glenn and other family members regarding family tree data. The notes include some records about places of residence, but they normally do not show place names for any life events and do not include any source information. Some of the items are dated, with dates ranging from 1921 to 1933, and the notes have since been supplemented by other relatives with various newspaper clippings.

In some cases these notes have provided or confirmed dates that were not readily available elsewhere, and in a few instances they have led to the identification of a child or a sibling that had not been included in other genealogy records. In all but one case where we have found records to double-check Glenn's data, we have found his data to be accurate. The notes are listed as a source in all the profiles where they have either contributed information or provided a pointer to other relevant data elsewhere.
